Crystal Palace will be looking to get even when they host AEK Larnaca in the first leg of their Conference League last-16 match on Thursday night.
Nearly five months ago, the Eagles lost 1-0 to the Cypriot side in their first major European match at Selhurst Park.
Crystal Palace are still the bookmakers’ favourite to win the Conference League, even though they finished 10th out of 36 teams in the League Phase, winning just three of their six games (W3 D1 L2).
The Eagles then moved into the knockout round playoffs. After a 1-1 draw with Zrinjski Mostar in the first leg, goals from Maxence Lacroix and Evann Guessand gave them a 2-0 win at Selhurst Park two weeks ago, sending them through to the last 16 with a 3-1 aggregate score.
Since then, Palace have had mixed results away from home in the Premier League. They lost 2-1 at Man United, but four days later earned a much-needed 3-1 win over Tottenham. That victory helped the South Londoners move 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
Palace’s strong home record in Europe is a good sign before Thursday’s match (W3 D1 L1). However, their only home defeat was to Larnaca, who Glasner describes as a “compact and experienced team” that plays “very similarly” to Zrinjski.
Another tight and cagey contest could be in store here. However, a run of three wins in four has given Glasner’s men a much-needed boost, and we are backing the home side to win this match.
