Two Premier League teams in the relegation zone meet at the London Stadium on Friday night, with West Ham United hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are currently at the bottom of the table.
West Ham will be looking to get revenge against a Wolves team that has found some form, after losing 3-0 at Molineux in the previous meeting on January 3.
West Ham’s hopes of reaching their first FA Cup semi-final in twenty years ended last weekend. They fought back to draw 2-2 after extra time at the London Stadium, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s team lost to Leeds United in a tense penalty shootout.
West Ham also lost 2-0 to Aston Villa in their last Premier League match before the international break. They are now 18th in the table, just one point behind Tottenham Hotspur in 17th. Friday’s game is a chance for them to move ahead of their London rivals and get out of the bottom three.
West Ham have won their last five Premier League home games against Wolves. They have only had longer winning runs at home against Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland in the division.
After a tough 11-game losing streak from October 18 to December 27, Wolves have lost only four of their last 13 Premier League matches (W3 D6).
In that time, only Arsenal (11), Manchester City (11), and Brighton and Hove Albion (12) have conceded fewer goals than the 15 allowed by Rob Edwards’s team.
Wolves are likely to put in another strong performance, but West Ham, eager to move out of the relegation zone, might have the advantage in what should be a close match.
