Qarabag FK and Newcastle United are both making their first appearance at this stage of the Champions League. They will meet at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium on Wednesday for the first leg of their knockout playoff.
Newcastle have not won three of their four away games in Europe this season. They will be hoping for a strong performance and a good result in Baku, aiming to end Qarabag’s impressive run and bring an advantage back to St James’ Park for the second leg next week.
Qarabag had never won a match in this competition until their comeback 3-2 victory over Benfica in September. Since then, they have also beaten Copenhagen and Eintracht Frankfurt on matchdays two and seven.
